A Chinese court has delivered a final ruling in the high-profile dispute between esports organization EDward Gaming and player Li «Scout» Ye Chan. After two years of legal battles, the court ruled that the esports athlete must pay the club ¥33 million (approximately $4.6 million) in compensation for breaching his contract during his transfer to LNG.
The conflict began when Scout left EDG in violation of his active contract terms. The organization sought compensation for the premature termination, sparking an extended court case.
The situation was further complicated by travel restrictions from China due to the ongoing litigation, putting Scout at risk of missing much of the 2024 World Championship in League of Legends. LNG resolved this by posting bail, enabling Scout to compete in the event.
This marks one of the largest penalties ever in esports transfers, underscoring Chinese clubs’ strict enforcement of contracts. The verdict could set a precedent for future player moves in the industry.
